Internal roles within Capgemini - The laptop roll-out
This Blog was written by Lauren Faers, Lauren is currently a member of the CDC graduate community.
From time to time, we are given the opportunity to engage in internal roles within Capgemini. Such roles provide a great opportunity to practice and develop skills that make us even more ready to tackle client challenges. I have been lucky enough to have been involved in one of the largest internal projects within Capgemini over the last few months- the laptop roll-out project. This project is responsible for upgrading all employees within Capgemini Consulting UK to the latest technology, enabling them to work more efficiently, increase their productivity and be more flexible in their working. With Digital Transformation being on many of our clients’ lips, this role was excellent experience.
CDCers on internal roles are often given more responsibility straight away than they might be given on a client project as it is a safer environment in which to work. This role has enabled me to get really deeply involved in various aspects of the project management. Specifically, I have had the opportunity to develop the process for the roll-out of the project, collaboratively working with a range of stakeholders internally. This was great as it forced me to think about the many considerations that must be made when planning a project from start to finish, including the supply chain, communications planning, change management and customer experience. Being in a role whereby I had to consider the various dependencies and considerations that must be made in a large-scale roll-out opened has opened my eyes to change management which will be a useful learning to take to clients.
I was lucky to be able to run an interactive workshop to present this deliverable to Capgemini Consulting UK COO for sign-off, which was a great privilege. This raises one of the other fantastic things about internal roles- the opportunity to gain recognition amongst senior stakeholders within Capgemini, and the opportunity to grow ones network internally. One of the most important aspects of being a consultant is developing a good personal network as we are a people business after all.
