Life at Capgemini - Chapter II

Graduate Program: Technology

Six months from the first blog I wrote, here I am once again writing the next chapter of life at Capgemini.  In the previous blog, I was still running on the adrenaline of our graduate Raleigh Weekend - right now, which feels like a very long time ago!

Following on from the Raleigh Weekend, I rejoined the very first project I had started on in Bath  in April 2010.  The project was entering its final stages and accelerating towards the looming ‘go-live ’ date.  The project now involved gathering together the content for quality, assurance and consistency measures . To ensure that the project was meeting client’s expectations and delivering what we’d said we’d deliver.

The project also gave me my first taste of success and a feeling of reward as we successfully met the go-live date for the website and exceeded expectations – something we always aim for at Capgemini.  It was a great experience of working to tight deadlines through late nights of commitment, desire and passion to deliver.  The success of the project also brought a greater sense of achievement throughout the team that had ploughed through hours of work over so many months.

In my previous blog, I also wrote about the then upcoming Capgemini version of “Dragons Den”.  The task was to come up with a business idea which would incorporate cloud computing and be environmentally friendly with the ultimate aim of being something we could take to Capgemini clients.  Unfortunately we didn’t win, however the ideas from my fellow colleagues and fellow team mates provided a great insight into the potential Capgemini holds among our graduates.  All of the ideas could have won the competition and were a brilliant showcase for the Business Technology Consulting graduate programme.

I am starting the New Year on a new project working as a ‘technical functional analyst’ in Slough.  I am working directly with our client to provide them with a system compatible to meet their needs in terms of supplying their products to their clients on different continents working on the same platform worldwide to ensure consistency and ease of integration.  On a daily basis, I am in contact with client contacts based in the Netherlands, Lithuania, Austria, Germany and India.  The aim of the project is simple: consistency in performance and design amongst all platforms . Ensuring a more effective, cost-effective and appropriate manner of delivering their products to their client.

There is a great opportunity to travel around the country with Capgemini as you are guaranteed to be working with different clients whenever possible.  However, don’t be fooled into thinking Capgemini UK is solely a UK based company.  I can assure you there are opportunities to travel abroad too!  As I am writing this, I am getting ready to board a plane with my project team to Lithuania for the week!  Followed by a trip to Austria and maybe even Germany if I’m lucky!

Such opportunities open the doors to further progression not only within the company but also one’s own experience, knowledge and life stories (to tell your grandchildren!).
This is one opportunity I am sure to hold on to...

We shall meet again..Soon!
